CHESHIRE GARDENS VISIT DAY

SATURDAY 25th OCTOBER 2025

10.30am Tour of Grozone Community Garden
Dane Nurseries, Northwich CW9 5QA

(The garden is a short walk from Northwich train station where there are direct trains from Manchester, Stockport and Chester).

This well-established community growing space offers open sessions for visitors and volunteers and caters for people of all ages and abilities.  Here they are supported to learn new skills, meet new people, or just simply enjoy being outdoors in a calming green space. 


The garden grows fruit and veg in a range of wheelchair friendly raised beds and greenhouses orchard. There's also a wildflower meadow, wildlife pond, beehives, an amazing outdoor kitchen, a yurt and an forest school area.  For more information see their website.

During the tour you will meet with staff & participants and find out how the site is planned and managed to meet the needs of those who garden on the site. 

 
If you work or would like to work in social, therapeutic or community horticulture this visit will be of great interest.

1.00pm Travel to Arley Hall

1.30pm - 3.30pm Group Tour of Arley Gardens (£11 per person entrance fee)

Arley Hall is situated at the centre of a triangle formed by Northwich, Knutsford and Warrington. Approximately 25 miles from Manchester, Liverpool and Chester and clearly signposted from the M6 (junctions 19/20) and M56 (junctions 9/10).

Follow the brown tourist signs or postcode CW9 6NA for Sat Nav.

These beautiful formal gardens cover 8 acres and date from 1743 when a walled garden was built and large pleasure gardens were laid out.  The gardens now consist of a number of rooms as created by Antoinette Egerton-Warburton in the 1840s to 1860's and probably the oldest double herbaceous borders in England which have remained virtually unchanged since their creation.  Features include a Rose Garden, Walled Garden Kitchen Garden, Vinery, Herb & Scented Garden  There are also 7 acres of informal Gardens including the Grove & Woodland Walk. After the tour the gardens are open until 5.00pm.
