Fairview

Fairview, Smelthouses, Harrogate. HG3 4DH
Time: 10.30am

Fairview is the private garden of horticulturist and galanthophile Michael Myers.
About 500 distinct taxa of snowdrops are grown in the garden at Fairview along with many other winter flowering bulbs, shrubs and herbaceous perennials. Since first becoming interested in snowdrops in 1985 I have introduced the cultivars ‘E.A. Bowles’, ‘Jonathan’, ‘Little Ben’ (with Ray Cobb) and ‘The Bogeyman’ into cultivation and in 2017 had the book ‘Conoscere e coltivare i Bucaneve’ (Know and Cultivate Snowdrops) published. The garden is also the site for three former National Plant Collections®. These comprised Anemone nemorosa, Hepatica and Primula marginata. The garden is about half an acre in size, steeply sloping to the south-west, but shaded by a neighbouring woodland. It contains a large collection of unusual plants including shrub roses, hardy orchids, dwarf bulbs, herbaceous perennials and shrubs. The top of the garden which includes an alpine house, bulb tunnel, raised beds and troughs is home to many of the snowdrops.
