Mount St John

Mount St John, Felixkirk, Thirsk, North Yorkshire YO7 2DT

Tour Time: 10.30am (See meeting instructions below)

Mount St John Estate overlooks the Vale of York, with stunning 40-mile views to York Minster and beyond. The estate covers over 12 acres, and the gardens beautifully reflect this captivating landscape.

The gardens were designed by the renowned nine-times Chelsea Gold Medal-winning garden designer, Tom Stuart-Smith OBE, and feature Victorian kitchen and cut flower gardens that supply local restaurants, several ornamental water features, and an abundance of beautifully manicured lawns.

Aside from Mount St John, Tom Stuart-Smith’s most notable garden designs include Broughton Grange, Oxfordshire; Fort Belvedere in Windsor Great Park; the garden at Windsor Castle created to commemorate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee; Trentham’s Italian Garden; RHS Garden Bridgewater; and the garden at The Hepworth, Wakefield, dedicated to the works of sculptor Barbara Hepworth. He specialises in creating gardens that combine naturalism and modernity.

Visitors to Mount St John will be treated to a delightful array of ornamental trees, rhododendrons, shrubs, and thousands of perennial plants, creating a picturesque and immersive experience. Our tour will be led by Garden Curator Jack Clark.
