Examining the hidden foraging preferences of pollinators
Dr Laura Jones is a researcher at the National Botanic Garden of Wales, where her work focuses on using DNA to monitor and reveal the hidden biodiversity of pollen and soil, examining how these tools can contribute to effective land management for conservation. Her research explores the foraging preferences of pollinators, helping to inform evidence-based approaches to biodiversity conservation and pollinator-friendly planting in gardens and managed landscapes.
Hoverflies: Heroes of horticulture!
Dr Sarah Arnold is a research leader in applied entomology at NIAB at East Malling. Her research focuses on insects of economic importance to the UK fruit sector, including pollinators, pests and natural enemies. In this talk she examines how these multi-talented insects can support food security in the UK and beyond. She currently collaborates on the Innovate UK funded project “FLYTHRIVE” which is looking at how hoverflies can be optimised to support pest management in protected soft-fruit crops.
